AltaVista Submission Policies

AltaVista strives to provide the most relevant search results on the Web. In order to maintain the integrity of the search index, we must sometimes exclude submissions that manipulate search results. Examples of such manipulation include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Pages with text that is not easily read, either because it is too small or is obscured by the background of the page
• Pages with off-topic or excessive keywords
• Duplication of content, either by excessive submission of the same page, submitting the same pages from multiple domains, or submitting the same content from multiple hosts
• Machine-generated pages with minimal or no content, whose sole purpose is to get a user to click to another page
• Pages that contain only links to other pages, or

• Pages whose primary intent is to redirect users to another page

Attempts to fill AltaVista's index with misleading or promotional pages lower the value of the index for everyone. We do not allow URL submissions from customers who spam the index and will exclude all such pages from the index.

We reserve the right to remove and/or to disable links to a Web site or Web page to which AltaVista has determined, in its sole discretion, that improper steps have been taken to manipulate AltaVista's search results.

Three ways to add Web pages to our search results:

Express Inclusion
Generate qualified traffic quickly and simply. Express Inclusion lets you quickly add up to 500 pages to the global database that powers AltaVista's search results. Weekly updates keep your listings fresh.

Trusted Feed
The highest level of service, reserved for partners that submit more than 500 pages to the AltaVista database. Trusted Feed enables submission of custom titles, keywords and abstracts and provides you with highly qualified traffic through weekly updates. Web pages are submitted via an XML data feed.

Basic Submit
Basic Submit allows you to suggest up to five pages to be added to or removed from the AltaVista global database. We generally evaluate your suggestions within four to six weeks.
